Screening

Screening

The screening process takes place in three different stages: raw material screening, meal screening, and screening in wastewater treatment.

Many rendering plants are attached to slaughterhouses, and the raw material is conveyed to the plant hydraulically, through channels or pipelines. Rotary screens or static screens are therefore installed at the plant’s receiving area, where they separate the raw material from most of the water used to convey it.

Screens are also used after the grinding process, on the meal, to classify it to the desired particle size. These are called vibrating screens.

Screening in wastewater treatment works the same way as screening at raw material reception, but here the effluent carries solids from the entire industrial plant and is sent for treatment. The loaded effluent is received on the rotary or static screen, which separates the larger solid particles from the liquid.
