The sludge dehydration system is characterized by the removal of moisture present in the sludge by means of centrifugal force; the main objective of this process is to reduce the volume of sludge destined for filling or the possibility of using it as an energy source or organic compound. The type of process to be used varies according to the characteristics of the sludge; it can be separated into two phases (solid and liquid) or three phases (solid, liquid and oil).

The sludge processing is constituted by:

  • Separation in two phases

Flocculation: for the processing of sludge in two phases, polymer of opposite charge is added so that the formation of consistent flakes occurs, helping in the separation process, where it is possible to obtain a drier mass and a clarified product with less drag.

Centrifugation: by means of a centrifugal decanter, the separation and clarification occurs by the action of the centrifugal force generated through progressive acceleration, at a speed defined for each application, in the rotating drum that presses the solids against the drum wall. Then is transferred to the conical end of the assembly through the helical conveyor with a differential speed that determines the residence time of the solids inside the equipment.

The discharge of the separated solids is carried out through openings in the conical end, where the solids are ejected to the discharge duct.

The clarified liquids exit to the opposite end to the solids in the cylindrical part of the drum where they exit through plates, which can be adjusted. The plates allow a precise adjustment of the liquid layer in the cylinder according to the characteristics of the product to be processed and the demand for clarification efficiency.

The DHT Centrifugal Decanter can be used for phase separation and clarification of a wide range of segments, and each application requires a differentiated configuration according to the type of product to be processed, density, viscosity, volume of solids, temperature.

  • Separation in three phases

Heating: The sludge is heated to 98 degrees in a heating tank, whose function is to heat floating residues through direct steam injection. An adequate heating system provides greater efficiency in the removal of the phases in the centrifugation process.

Centrifugation: by means of a centrifugal Tridecanter, the separation and clarification occurs by the action of the centrifugal force; generated through progressive acceleration, at a speed defined for each application. In the rotating drum presses the solids against the drum wall and it is transferred to the conical end of the assembly through the helical conveyor with a differential speed that determines the time of the solids inside the equipment.

The discharge of the separated solids is carried out through openings in the conical end, where the solids are ejected to the discharge duct.

The clarified liquid drains to the end opposite the solids in the cylindrical part of the drum where they exit through plates, which can be adjusted. The plates allow a precise adjustment of the liquid layer in the cylinder according to the characteristics of the product to be processed and the demand for clarification efficiency.

The separation of the oil occurs due to the difference in density, since it is the lightest phase, it is concentrated in the central end of the cylinder.

The Centrifugal Tridecanter can be used for phase separation and clarification of a wide range of segments, and each application requires a differentiated configuration according to the type of product to be processed, density, viscosity, volume of solids, temperature.
